Abstract: In response to the Forest and Rangeland Renewable Resources Planning Act (RPA) of 1974 and the National Forest Management Act (NFMA) of 1976, the USDA Forest Service has made significant progress in integrated multiresource planning on the national forests. Although the development of integrated multiresource plans for all national forests is, in itself, a worthwhile goal, the Forest Service must still implement those plans so that the forests multiresource integrity is maintained. Because the plans are largely not site-specific, the step from a forest-level plan to project-level implementation can be long. The immense volume of data that must be processed and the massive number of alternatives that must be evaluated promise to make it a formidable task.
