Title: Sustainable Ecological Systems: Implementing an Ecological Approach to Land Management, Implications for Ponderosa Pine/Bunchgrass Ecological Systems

Author: * Covington, W.W.

Subject: Ecological Restoration

Abstract: When viewed from a conservation biology perspective, postsettlement outbursts of ponderosa pine trees in ponderosa pine/bunchgrass ecosystems not only reduce biological diversity but also lead to nonadaptive catastrophic processes. These changes, in conjunction with parallel decreases in natural resource conditions, are compelling reasons for beginning ecological restoration treatments desgined to establish landscape conditions which more closely approximate the conditions which these ecosystems have experienced over evolutionary time.
